In one, people in different types of clothes shopped at expensive boutiques in Milan. One group wore casual sports clothes, while the other were dressed in expensive-looking outfits. The sales assistants thought the ones in the sportswear were the bigger spenders. In another test, students rated an unshaven professor in a T-shirt above a professor wearing a suit and tie. Bellezza says that well-known CEOs who dress down and wear jeans and sneakers may have changed how we think. In particular, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s wearing of hoodies and the late Steve Jobs’ trademark jeans, sneakers and polo neck tops.
